I've been working with textiles for as long as I can remember, learning from both my mother and my favorite aunt when I was just a child. For me, textiles have always been a part of life, but for years I didn’t realize it could be something more. After starting my career as a bank clerk, it wasn’t until I took an HNC in Stitched and Constructed Textiles as a mature student that I had this wonderful realization that sewing didn’t have to be just practical or even traditional. There was this whole world of textile art waiting for me, and once I found it, I was hooked!
What I love most is how textiles can tell a story or convey an emotion. I often describe my work as “painting with fabric and drawing with stitch,” because it’s a way for me to create something visually beautiful, using familiar, tactile materials. My inspiration often comes from the Clwydian hills, which I’m lucky enough to live near. Whether I’m out running or walking in those hills, I find a sense of peace and connection that I try to bring into my work.
Creating art is comforting for me, and it’s my hope that others feel some of that comfort when they see my pieces.
